On homeopathic products you will often see a “Q” or “Ø” after the name. This means mother tincture.
What a mother tincture is
It is the original extract of a plant or other substance, usually made by soaking it in alcohol. It is the starting point from which all other homeopathic potencies are made.
Mother tincture vs dilutions
| Mother tincture (Q) | Dilutions (6C, 30C, 200C…) | |
|---|---|---|
| Strength | Undiluted extract | Diluted many times |
| Typical form | Liquid drops | Liquid or sugar pills |
| Alcohol | Usually contains alcohol | Liquids contain alcohol |
Before you order
- Check the potency carefully. The same remedy name exists as Q, 6C, 30C, 200C and more; they are different products.
- Alcohol content: most mother tinctures contain alcohol.
- Follow the maker’s directions or your homeopath’s advice.
